EZCompos

Quick Verdict

EZCompos is a free, open-source image editor for Mac that appears intended as an alternative to Photoshop, with tools for composing and retouching images. It may matter to users who want layer-based editing without a subscription or account requirement, but compatibility, file-format support, and licensing details should be verified before switching.

The website describes EZCompos as free to download, with no subscription and no account wall. That makes it easy to evaluate without committing to recurring costs. However, the available information does not establish how closely its workflow or capabilities match Photoshop, so it is best assessed against the specific editing tasks you need.

Key Features

• Layers and masks: The editor supports layer-based composition and masks, useful for combining image elements and controlling which areas are visible.
• Precise selections: Selection tools are included for isolating or modifying specific parts of an image.
• Color and retouching tools: The website describes features for color adjustment and image retouching.
• No subscription or account requirement: EZCompos is described as free to download, with no subscription and no account required.
• Open-source distribution: The project is identified as open-source. The website does not clearly state which software license applies, so verify the license before using it in a commercial or redistributed workflow.

The available version information lists macOS 26 or later. The website does not clearly state supported Mac hardware, the full macOS compatibility range, image file formats, or whether the editor works fully offline.

Who this is for

EZCompos is best suited to Mac users looking for a no-cost Photoshop alternative for image composition, selection work, color adjustments, and retouching. It may also suit people who prefer software that does not require an account or subscription.

It is a weaker fit for anyone who depends on specific file formats, older Macs, a known commercial-use license, or established Photoshop-compatible workflows. Verify those requirements on the official website before relying on it for production work.
